About Jeff Shannon, LMFT
I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA. I moved to Los Angeles for college and then to San Francisco for graduate school. In 1998 I became licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist. My whole adult life has been spent in the helping professions (e.g., social services, mental health, law enforcement).
In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I do a lot of training for government agencies and businesses on topics such as emotional wellness, crisis de-escalation, managing the mentally ill, and managing the angry customer.
I am a Featured Columnist for the law enforcement site Calibre Press, writing on topics pertaining to the mental health of law enforcement officers.
I feel grateful every day for being able to do the work I love!
My approach to psychotherapy is based on my training and education in cognitive-bahavioral therapy, positive psychology, and object relations theory. Any potential therapist should be able to articulate his/her theoretical orientation, as that is what guides us in helping you feel, and live better. However, the most important strength I can offer is being able to connect on a basic, human level with those I see.
