As a counselor I believe a key to success is a strong, personal connection to you and your struggles. It is imperative that you see me as a real person who can understand what you are up against in your life. I strive to establish a trusting relationship with you, the kind of relationship where you can dispose of the usual psychological defense mechanisms and be completely honest about your experience.
My style is both direct and warm. I will gently, but openly challenge your irrational automatic thoughts, I may assign you homework, and I will always have your best interest at heart. Wellness is work. My bias is that coming to counseling once a week and talking is insufficient for lasting change. I will ask you to work, and if you're not willing to put some effort into your own wellness I am probably not the counselor for you.
Theoretically, my practice is influenced by cognitive-behavioral therapy, positive psychology, and object relations theory.
Our first meeting is a consultation. I will ask you a lot of questions in an attempt to determine if I feel like I can help you. It also gives you a chance to see if you feel comfortable opening up about what is really going on. If we both feel good about moving forward, we will schedule additional session.
INSURANCE: The only insurance I accept is Claremont EAP.
